To feel more confident in the modern age and not get carried away you need to be constantly mindful!
In the world of fashion, you might hear the word confidence a lot. Seems good, doesn’t it?
No, it is not for a good reason, most of the time. More often than not, the confidence brands talk about is product related. It is designed primarily to drive sales not to empower you.
Let me ask you this:
How often do you see a brand promising you to be noticeable, sexier, elusive, confident with their products? I bet a lot. This is one of the most successful marketing tactics. It sells like crazy!
You ask why?
Because if a brand promises a product can make you feel any of those, you want that experience so bad that you pay whatever it costs (of course if you can afford it) to get the experience.
With this tactic, they are not selling a product, they are selling the experience!
If you don’t wear that perfume, you are not alluring. The perfume makes you alluring.
If you don’t drive that car, you are just an ordinary person. The car makes you special.
If you don’t wear designer, you are not chic. The designer clothes make you chic!
Basically, You need our products to feel more confident!
What is wrong about this image they show you is that it is from a specific angle for a specific goal. It doesn’t tell the whole truth!
What is the whole truth?
The truth is that confidence is formed from two different layers. External confidence and internal confidence.
Think of it as one balloon inside another balloon. The big balloon is your external confidence and the smaller balloon inside it is your internal confidence.
If you blow less into your internal confidence balloon there is a huge hollow area that makes you feel the need to fill it up with the external stuff to fill the void.
And the more you blow into the internal balloon (self-confidence) the less space is left, you feel more enough and not that needy to the external factors.
Am I saying External confidence is wrong?
No! But there is a healthy level to do so. You have to keep an eye on it constantly because the world around you is designed to make you think less about it.
How to know if I have a healthy level of external confidence?
- If you are doing whatever you do for yourself because you believe it is right because you truly like it.
- When you reach this level, you don’t take others’ opinions personally and it won’t affect you much ( it does a little bit, you are still a human with feelings!) but it goes away quickly. It doesn’t make you change!
Final note
Understand that these two complete each other. To be in society, to interact with people you can’t draw a line on external confidence and ignore it. You don’t want to pop your inner confidence balloon, it can only get so big! but you need to understand that giving in to external factors with an absent mind can only leave you devastated.
Here at “Why Before Buy” our goal is to boost your external confidence with the way you style and help you stop giving in to illusive external factors. And from now on we will have a Confidence series to help you grow and glow inside and out! 🙂
