Trends are not automatically bad.
The problem is that some trends look exciting at first but make your wardrobe harder to use. They can be uncomfortable, difficult to style, too specific, or simply not worth the space they take up.
When I look at trends, I am not only asking whether something is popular. I am asking whether it adds value, whether it works in real life, and whether it helps you get dressed with more ease.
1. Vinyl shoes
Vinyl shoes had a long moment, but they are not the easiest trend to wear.
The issue is comfort and practicality. Plastic is not breathable, and when your feet sweat, walking in vinyl shoes can become uncomfortable very quickly.
If you like the feminine, barely-there effect, mesh shoes are usually a better option. They give you a similar lightness without the same plastic feeling.
2. Fringe
Fringe can be beautiful in the right context, but for everyday style, it often makes an outfit feel messy.
It adds movement, but not always polish.
The one place fringe makes more sense is performance, dance, or anything where movement is part of the visual effect. In everyday outfits, it often complicates the look without adding much value.
3. Heavy metallics
Metallics can be beautiful, but they work best in moderation.
When the metallic finish is too heavy, too glossy, or too overpowering, it can make the outfit feel less elegant.
A smaller metallic detail, a softer finish, or one well-placed metallic piece is usually much easier to style than a full heavy metallic look.
4. Oversized open-knit pieces
Open-knit can work when it is subtle.
The problem starts when the knit is too open and the holes are too large. At that point, the piece becomes less functional because everything underneath is exposed.
If you like a sheer or skin-revealing effect, a sheer fabric can often look more refined and feel lighter than a very open knit.
5. Graphic patterns
Graphic patterns are one of the hardest trend categories to make versatile.
They can be bold and fun, but they often do not blend easily with the rest of a wardrobe. They can also date quickly, which makes them harder to repeat over time.
If your goal is to keep your wardrobe simple, polished, and easy to style, graphic patterns usually should not be a priority.
Start with neutrals, then add color, then classic patterns. Graphic patterns should come much later, and only if they truly fit your personal style.
Final thought
The goal is not to reject every trend.
The goal is to choose trends carefully.
A good trend should make your wardrobe feel more current without making it harder to wear. It should add something useful, beautiful, or interesting without creating more confusion.
